There’s so much more to an international service internship than a bullet point on your resume for doing service work overseas. It’s great for learning flexibility, working hard, perfecting old skills, developing new ones, and learning humility. If you have an open mind, big heart, and strong hands, it’s a good indicator that a service-oriented internship is for you.
Join the ranks of inspiring colleagues working to benefit the public good while knocking out some required and/or elective courses about the British way of life. Trust us — it’s much more than milky tea and wizards.

STRUCTURE
Make your semester abroad more meaningful than just weekend jaunts with your mates and a memory card of high-resolution photos.
For the first seven weeks of this program, you will combine your choice FIE Key Course (British Life and Cultures, British Life and Business, British Life and Visual Media, or British Life and Europe) with two or three other selected elective courses. Hit the ground running because internship placement interviews happen week one. You’ll then combine three days of interning with two days of classes, and will rock the last few weeks of the program with the help of International Service Internship Course (ISIC).
Phase 1: Weeks 1 - 7 | Week 8 | Phase 2: Weeks 9 - 15 |
Required FIE Key Course meets for three hours a week. Two or three other selected elective courses take place throughout the week. During this period, students will interview for internships/service internships and sites are confirmed. |
Mid-semester Break |
Classes meet two days per week. The required FIE Key Course continues for three hours a week. International Service Internship Course (ISIC) meets during Phase 2 as a space for reflection on the placement experience (if applicable). Internships are scheduled for three days a week. |
