Dr McVeigh read Politics and Parliamentary Studies at the University of Leeds, interning in both the US Congress and British House of Commons and was awarded the Wheeler Memorial Prize in Politics on graduating in 1992. He subsequently received UK Research Council funding for a doctoral study in comparative and European political economy which involved fieldwork in Spain, culminating in 1998 with the publication of his thesis on Spain’s political economy from Franco to Spanish participation in the Single Market. His teaching and research interests include international economics; British government and politics; and global, European / EU and comparative politics and political economy. He is an accredited public speaker and money coach who enjoys travel, sports and cooking.
