Fiona is a musicologist, professional violinist and arts manager specialising in the effects of classical music on people and places, specifically in London. She completed her PhD The Royal Albert Hall: A Case Study of an Evolving Cultural Venue in 2018 at the Royal College of Music. Since graduating, Fiona has worked as a research associate for Discover South Kensington and has also explored the effects of live music on audience’s mental health, particularly examining whether music can be utilised to alleviate loneliness. Fiona has taught at the RCM, and for FIE since 2018 and has regularly given presentations for Discover South Kensington, Archives for London, and the FIE Student Leadership Conference. She also works as an arts manager for Sinfonia Smith Square, supporting emerging artists as they embark on professional musical careers. She is also Diversity and Inclusion lead for the organisation – she is passionate about making classical music accessible and relevant to as many people as possible.
